An Open Letter to Our Employees
Good evening, NGMers,
The NGM Executive Committee wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts on the crisis that has been unfolding across our country.
Last week, as a nation, we watched in horror as George Floyd, an American citizen, was brutally murdered. As fellow citizens, we were shocked, shaken and angered. As professionals who have dedicated our lives to making medicines that can help people live healthier, better lives, this flagrant disregard for human life is unconscionable.
Unfortunately, Mr. Floyd’s death was merely the latest in a recurring pattern of racism, intolerance and inequality that continues to infect our country. We add our voices to those in Minneapolis and across the country who are protesting this senseless act and amplifying the urgent need for meaningful change.
We recognize the pain and frustration that have fueled the protests here in California and nationwide. We pray for the safety and well-being of all those in communities that have been impacted by the ensuing violence. And we hopefully look to our government leaders to help guide our state and country through this turbulent time, particularly as we simultaneously continue to combat COVID-19.
We believe moments like this demand reflection and a renewed commitment to the values that guide us as an organization. NGM celebrates diversity, regardless of race or ethnic background, gender or sexual orientation. We do not tolerate bigotry, racism or prejudice of any kind. We believe that every team member is equal – and equally contributes to our mission to advance meaningful medicines for patients. We respect one another not merely as co-workers but as valued human beings.
Recent events serve as a stark reminder that, as a country, we have a great deal of work ahead to ensure that ‘liberty and justice for all’ is not an aspirational concept but the indisputable reality for every American.
Sincerely,
Your Executive Committee
